About Us
The
Association
Europiano is a union of 17 independent national piano tuner and technicians associations.
Its chief purpose is to be a forum for the craftsmen and women from across Europe in the field of piano technology, in order to support their professional and commercial interests. Through this it can contribute most effectively in preserving the cultural value of keyboard instruments and their music.
The association publishes a quarterly magazine, providing members with important news and technical articles on various topics within piano making and related work. It organizes a congress every three years in one of the member countries. One of the main tasks is the training and further education of members. The association offers seminars and exams for members without the opportunity to attend state schools and take exams.
Europiano was founded in 1950 in Ludwigsburg and is registered at the Chamber of Commerce Herdern, Switzerland, under the ID-number CHE-100.340.927.
The Board & Committees
The Executive Committee, or Board, consists of the President, three Vice-Presidents, the Treasurer and the Secretary. The Executive Committee meets on a regular basis, normally 3–4 times a year. All elected representatives and committee members work on a volunteer basis. Both the secretary and the editor of the magazine “Europiano” receive an honorarium for the work they do. All official actions and documentation are presented in the three official languages of Europiano: English, German and French.
Our History
Europiano has a more relaxed approach than similar organizations elsewhere in the world, and acts more like a partnership. The greatest challenge Europiano faces is communicating with so many languages involved, but throughout more than six decades, and with a firm and enduring willingness from its members, Europiano has managed to overcome this. This willingness to cooperate demonstrates the unifying effect Europiano has.
